Plastering and Gyprocking in The Entrance
The Entrance is named after a gap in the sand. Three lakes drain to the ocean through it, and it is the only way out for the whole system. The channel does not stay open on its own, so Council dredges it on behalf of the state. That is the fact this town is built around. Almost everything else worth knowing about working here follows from the waterfront rather than from the houses.
Common plasterboard problems in The Entrance
Three of the four below are about the channel this town is named after. The fourth is about half past three in the afternoon.
The channel has to be kept open, and fifteen metres is the trigger
Central Coast Council dredges The Entrance channel on behalf of the state government, on average every two or three years. Before a change of policy in 2009 it was closer to every twelve months. One of the things that sets the work going is the throat of the channel narrowing. Under fifteen metres of estimated width at mid tide is a trigger. That is a specific number for a specific gap in the sand, and it is why the town is where it is.
A big flood opens the channel by itself
The channel goes through a cycle of closing and opening and Council describes that as a completely normal process. In a major flood it scours itself open and lets the water out without help. The scale is worth knowing. An ordinary program took about thirty thousand cubic metres of sand out of the channel in 2020. After the flood in March 2021 the figure was around a hundred and twenty four thousand.
The dredging happens in autumn and winter, for the terns
The work is scheduled outside the Little Tern breeding season and away from the commercial fishing periods, which puts it in the colder months. Sand that comes out goes onto the beaches at North Entrance and The Entrance for erosion control. So the waterfront here is a worksite in exactly the months when a lot of owners want work done inside. If your place is near the channel it is worth asking us about the timing before we set a date.
The pelicans are fed at half past three, every day
It started when staff at the local fish shop began throwing scraps to the birds. The Entrance Town Centre Management built the permanent platform at Pelican Plaza for it in 1996. It has run daily since, free, for about fifty minutes. It is the one fixed hour in this town's day. On the waterfront streets it changes where a truck can stand. We load and unload down there in the morning rather than the middle of the afternoon.
Why The Entrance properties choose Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes
We sheet, set and sand plasterboard across The Entrance and the rest of the Central Coast Council area, on new houses, renovations and repairs. Every job here is priced before it starts, whether it is one damaged wall or a whole house of new work.
How our plastering and gyprocking service works in The Entrance
Send photographs of a repair, or the floor plans for a new house or renovation, and we price the work from those. A site visit happens where the job needs one, and it costs nothing. Once the quote is accepted we agree a start date that suits your builder's program or your own. Nothing is ordered until that date is set.
On the day we sheet the ceilings first and the walls after, so each wall sheet picks up the ceiling line. We sheet rather than frame, so the studs, ceiling battens and furring channel are set out by your builder or carpenter before we arrive. Clear the room where you can and we work around what has to stay. Walls and ceilings are left set, sanded and ready for the painter, and a repair patch stays visible until it is painted.
The channel runs along the northern edge of the suburb, with The Entrance Bridge carrying the Central Coast Highway across to The Entrance North. Long Jetty and Toowoon Bay are south of the centre. A good deal of the housing here is attached or in low blocks rather than freestanding, which is unusual on this coast. The two useful things to tell us are which floor you are on and whether the address is on the waterfront side. Parking down there works around the afternoon.
Residential plastering in The Entrance
The suburb takes its name from the channel along much of its northern border, which is the entrance to the Tuggerah Lakes. That opening is the only one the system has. The town has taken visitors since the first guest house opened in 1885. Long Jetty a little south of here was built in 1914 and is still the longest in New South Wales. Memorial Park fronts the waterfront where the pelicans are fed. The Entrance Bridge joins the two halves of the place across the water.
The census figures for this area cover The Entrance and its surrounds rather than the suburb on its own, so we quote them that way. Fewer than half the dwellings are freestanding houses, close to three in ten are attached and better than one in five is a flat. That is a different mix from anywhere else on this coast. Around a quarter were unoccupied on census night and the median age is forty eight. What we do here runs from ordinary house repairs to work in small blocks near the water.

Frequently asked questions about plastering in The Entrance
Do you cover the suburbs around The Entrance?
Yes. Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes covers The Entrance and the suburbs around it, right across the Central Coast Council area. Every neighbouring suburb named on this page is inside the area we work in, and there is no travel charge to any of them. If your street is not shown, call us and say where you are, and we will confirm it on the phone.
What are your service hours in The Entrance?
Our service hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5.30pm. Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes keeps those hours across The Entrance and the rest of the Central Coast Council area. A call outside them reaches voicemail rather than another number. Leave your suburb and a short description of the work and we will come back to you.
Why does a dredging program matter to a plastering job?
Because of where a delivery can stand rather than anything about your walls. Council dredges the channel every two or three years and the work runs through autumn and winter, with sand going out onto the beaches. Near the waterfront that changes what the streets are like for a few weeks. It is worth a question before we set a start date if your address is close to the channel.
Is a unit job here different from a job in a house?
Yes, and there are a great many more units here than in the suburbs either side. Fewer than half the homes in this area are freestanding. Those jobs run differently to a house, because the way in is shared and the stair usually sets how long a sheet can be. Tell us the floor and what the way in looks like. We will plan the delivery around it rather than finding out on the day.
Can you park out the front on the waterfront streets?
Yes, usually, and the time of day decides it. The pelican feed runs every afternoon at half past three and the waterfront fills up for it. So we bring material in during the morning and keep the middle of the afternoon clear down there. Anywhere back from the water it makes no difference at all. Tell us the street and we will know which of the two applies.
What does the channel closing mean for a house here?
Council treats the closing and opening as a normal cycle, and in a big flood the channel scours itself open. What that means for any particular address is a question for the current flood mapping rather than for us. We look it up before quoting anything near the water. If a wall here has been wet before, that changes the job more than the channel does.
