Plastering and gyprocking service areas across Newcastle and the Hunter
Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes supply and install plasterboard across five regions: the City of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and the Central Coast. That runs from Singleton and Cessnock in the west out to Nelson Bay and Tanilba Bay, and south through Warners Bay and Toronto to Wyong, Tuggerah and Gosford. There is no travel charge anywhere in it, and no suburb in it is quoted at a different rate for being further out.
City of Newcastle
The City of Newcastle is older than most of what surrounds it. Paper faced plasterboard reached Australia in 1947 and only became common here through the 1960s, so the inner ring from Cooks Hill and The Hill out through Carrington, Islington and Tighes Hill was largely built before it existed. Several of those inner suburbs sit inside Heritage Conservation Areas listed in the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan, and Newcastle is one of the declared Mine Subsidence Districts. On 28 December 1989 an earthquake damaged around 50,000 buildings across the city, about 80 percent of them homes, and a great deal of that stock was patched or partly relined in the years that followed. Out through Mayfield, Waratah, Lambton and New Lambton the housing turns post war brick veneer, and at Wallsend, Maryland and Fletcher it turns again to newer estate building.
Suburbs include: Newcastle CBD, Newcastle East, The Hill, Cooks Hill, Merewether, Bar Beach, The Junction, Hamilton, Islington, Wickham, Carrington, Tighes Hill, Mayfield, Waratah, Georgetown, Lambton, New Lambton, Adamstown, Broadmeadow, Jesmond, Wallsend, Maryland and Fletcher
Lake Macquarie
Lake Macquarie runs from the suburbs that back onto Newcastle down the lake edge and out to the open coast. Charlestown and Kotara are the commercial centre of the area and carry most of its apartment and strata housing, while Warners Bay, Speers Point, Valentine and Eleebana sit on the water and Redhead, Dudley, Swansea and Caves Beach sit on the beach side. Lake Macquarie is a declared Mine Subsidence District, so ground movement is a live question across the whole area rather than an occasional one. Cardiff, Edgeworth and Glendale hold a large amount of post war and nineteen seventies housing, and Cameron Park at the western edge is one of the newer estate areas in the region.
Suburbs include: Charlestown, Kotara, Warners Bay, Speers Point, Boolaroo, Cardiff, Edgeworth, Glendale, Cameron Park, Belmont, Valentine, Eleebana, Redhead, Dudley, Swansea, Caves Beach, Toronto and Morisset
Maitland and the Hunter Valley
This is where most of the new housing in the Hunter is going up. Thornton, Chisholm, Rutherford, Gillieston Heights and Lochinvar are estate areas rather than established suburbs, which means young frames still working through their first drying seasons and stock with very little in common with the inner city. Maitland itself is older, with Lorn and Bolwarra carrying nineteenth century housing on the river flats, and East Maitland sits inside its own Mine Subsidence District, separate again from the Maitland West district. West of there the coalfields towns of Cessnock, Kurri Kurri and Weston give way to Branxton and Greta, both of which are declared subsidence districts, and Singleton sits at the top of the valley.
Suburbs include: Maitland, East Maitland, Rutherford, Lorn, Bolwarra, Thornton, Beresfield, Chisholm, Gillieston Heights, Lochinvar, Farley, Branxton, Greta, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Weston and Singleton
Port Stephens
Port Stephens is the most exposed part of the service area. Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay, Corlette, Soldiers Point and Anna Bay sit on or close to open water, and salt laden wind and wind driven rain reach buildings there in a way they never do at Maitland or Cardiff. Wind classification on exposed and elevated blocks is frequently higher here than it is inland, and that changes what an external ceiling is allowed to be built from. Raymond Terrace, Heatherbrae and Medowie sit further back and mix established housing with newer estates, and RAAF Base Williamtown shares its runway with Newcastle Airport in the middle of the area.
Suburbs include: Raymond Terrace, Heatherbrae, Medowie, Williamtown, Fern Bay, Tomago, Salt Ash, Tanilba Bay, Lemon Tree Passage, Salamander Bay, Corlette, Soldiers Point, Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay and Anna Bay
Central Coast
The Central Coast is the furthest region served and it runs from the Woy Woy peninsula in the south to Lake Munmorah in the north. Gosford and Erina sit at the southern end, the Tuggerah Lakes suburbs run through Tuggerah, Long Jetty and The Entrance, and the northern lakes take in Budgewoi, San Remo and Lake Munmorah. Much of the housing is nineteen seventies and eighties coastal building, a good deal of it holiday stock that became permanent, and the open coast at Bateau Bay and Terrigal carries the same salt exposure the Port Stephens beaches do. Hue Hue at the northern end is a declared Mine Subsidence District, which is the same ground question the Hunter has.
Suburbs include: Gosford, East Gosford, West Gosford, Erina, Woy Woy, Umina Beach, Ettalong Beach, Kincumber, Avoca Beach, Copacabana, MacMasters Beach, Terrigal, Wyoming, Wyong, Tuggerah, Watanobbi, Berkeley Vale, Bateau Bay, Long Jetty, The Entrance, Toukley, Budgewoi, San Remo and Lake Munmorah

Frequently asked questions about where we work
Which areas do you cover?
Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes work across five regions: the City of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and the Central Coast. In practice that runs from Singleton and Cessnock in the west to Nelson Bay and Tanilba Bay on the coast, and south through Lake Macquarie to Wyong, Tuggerah and Gosford. Each of those five regions has its own section on this page with the suburbs it takes in.
Is there an extra charge for travel to my suburb?
No. There is no travel charge anywhere Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes work, and that includes the far edges of the coverage rather than only the suburbs close to Newcastle. A job in Singleton, Nelson Bay or Gosford is quoted at the same rate as one in Mayfield. Quoting is free as well, so there is nothing to pay before you have a figure and nothing added to it for the drive.
What are your service hours?
Newcastle Gyprocker Heroes are on the phone Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5.30pm. Most jobs are booked ahead rather than attended on the day you call, because sheeting and setting is planned work that needs the room ready and the framing finished. If you call outside those hours, leave a message with the suburb and what the job is and it is picked up the following morning.
Do you have a page for my suburb?
Yes, if it is one of the thirty four listed below. Each of those has its own page with the faults that come up most often there and the conditions behind them, which are not the same across the coverage: a Federation house in Merewether, a 1970s brick veneer in Cardiff and a new build in Thornton fail in different ways. If your suburb is not listed it is most likely covered by the nearest one, and a phone call confirms it.
